Cheongsam attires, known also as the qipao, has been popular not only in films and on fashion parades, it has captured the imagination of the people world over right from its origins in Shanghai in 1920s, and its hugging sexy looks has been a great draw.

It was revived in Hong Kong, and such famous tailoring companies as Linvas in the Centrals Hong Kong has been at the centre of manufacturing the dresses on a large scale. You can see the tailors standing in the company of frog fastening sewed up on paper, embroidery and silk roll stacked up along with color fabrics across the counters and shelves, even the tailors take measurements from the tapes which are hanging around their necks all the time.

What is special about Cheongsam is the collar, a distinctive mandarin style, along with another distinct feature of the dress, frog fastening coming with slits in the sides, rising to the height of thighs, it is a traditional dress which has not varied over a period time. You must tell the tailors when you are likely to wear the dress, whether in the morning, evening or for a wedding, and hair-does and skin colors are also taken into account before choosing the fabrics. Fabrics to be chosen from vary from brocades to woven silks, chiffon and even cashmere.
