Planning for the worst with Wedding Photography

To all you brides, hobbyists or wedding photographers out there! We want to take a moment to reflect on the worst case scenario, because unfortunately things have a tendency to go wrong, regardless of how much we prepare. With this is mind we've created a list of some of the problems we've heard of and then some of the ways to overcome them! For hobbyists this will be interesting, to photographers it might be worth comparing notes and to brides, well, take comfort that we legislate for the worst that could happen!

Camera Breaks. Pretty obvious really. With any piece of delicate equipment there is always a failure risk, also we have an array of lens some of which are very heavy, so aside from mechanical failure there could well be breakages. In order to prepare for this eventuality our two photographers operate with a minimum of two camera's each (this isn't soley for contingency as it makes it also easier to swap lens quickly). In addition to the four cameras we have backup batteries, memory and lens. We shot on smaller memory cards and change them often (limiting the possibility for big losses) and we are very proud of (and careful with) our equipment! 

What if the photographer is ill? It's a possibility of course, although both of lead photographers are proud of not missing an event - ever. In Simon's case in over 20 years and Matt in over 10 years! We operate with two photographers, one would of course be available if the other was not - so you can always rely on safe hands. In addition to this we also have relationships with other photographers who would step in at the last minute to assist if we need them. Do you know someone who maybe able to help? Think in advance so your backed up on the day!

What if it rains on the day? This is of course a very real possibility, and don't hope that a summer wedding will necessarily save you! We have done wet weddings in August and beautiful clear blue sky's in December. From a photography point of view the answer is to be prepared. Our normal service includes visiting the venue and Church well before the day and allocating areas which we think will be suitable in advance. We check out the lighting, background and take some sample shots to get a feel. In addition to this, as a business we have invested heavily in highly mobile but efficient flash technology which can help get the best possible tone in any lighting and finally we have the very, very latest in digital camera equipment and can work at extremely high ISO's with minimal image noise.
