Trouble In Paradise! Learn The Signs Of Lying
Not long ago Olivia and Mike tied the knot. They are each other's dream partner, and hold the same beliefs, to the extent that they both agreed to have a budget wedding; Olivia bought a used wedding dress, and Mike printed the wedding invitations himself. But even in the best relationships, there can be trouble, and Olivia and Mike now have to deal with the "L" word... Lies!!!
No one deserves to be lied to, and even less when you are devoted to your spouse. It may be a little lie or a big one, but once lying becomes a habit, sooner or later it will hurt your marriage. So, learn to identify the signs of a lie soon into the game just by looking at their face and body, and maybe you can deal with the issue before it snowballs out of control.
- Covering the mouth while speaking is very common behavior when people lie. They are subconsciously covering the lies they are telling. They can cover the whole mouth or simply put a finger on their lips.
- Touching the nose has been proven to be another usual behavior when lying, because lying causes the nose tissue to swell. Thus, if your spouse is not normally allergic but starts rubbing their nose, beware! You could be hearing a big fat lie.
- Rubbing the eye is a common one. When lying, people tend to look away out of shame, but since this is so obvious, some liars have acquired the eye rubbing habit instead.
- Everyone knows the "touching the ear" behavior. Anything, from a slight rub on the back to an obvious yank of the earlobe, are tell-tale signs of lies being told.
- Scratching the neck can be a consequence of tingling tissues, caused by lying. It shows the person feels uneasy and normally is done while telling the lie, not before or after it is said.
- Mixing head nods and shakes gives them away easily. If your spouse says something like, "Yes, I'm getting home late because there is an important meeting" while nodding with the head, they are telling the truth, but if they say yes while shaking the head no, you better dig deeper. Do not be afraid to ask to get a definite yes or no answer; going for the truth is the only way to go.
For these signs to convey a lie, they have to be a common behavior in your spouse when talking about key issues or answering certain questions. Most of all, you know your spouse, and if their body language changes at some point, pay attention to it and try to identify one or several of the above. Also the eyes can help you detect a lie. It could save your marriage.
